CHENNAI: Women self-help groups (SHGs) in the city are working on segregating garbage to sell it and earn a livelihood.

Metrowater to launch SMS complaint facility

The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) will be introducing an SMS facility for consumers to lodge complaints.
Consumers will be able to register complaints through text messages and get acknowledgements, after registering their mobile numbers with the local Metrowater depots.

Temporary shelters ruined

Rehabilitation of the tsunami-affected people is an ambitious project of the DMK-led government in the state. A year ago, 2,000-odd asbestos-roofed temporary shelters were built off the Marina coast, to relocate families affected by the 2004 tsunami. Now, the plan is to pull down existing residential blocks of the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board along the Marina and build stilt-plus-four’ buildings to house the tsunami-affected as well as the slum dwellers.
